"The Castle of Balaton" An immersive exhibition
The exhibition space of the castle, created by the Hungarian Castle Programme Ltd., welcomes visitors with a modern, experience-based concept enriched with spectacular visual elements that reflect the colors of Lake Balaton. Visitors can explore the castle’s earliest periods in the Palace, where they can symbolically “look back in time” through large window-like displays. A 3D technology animation brings the construction process to life, while models and reconstructions illustrate the development of the castle and highlight significant events across the centuries. The different historical phases of the castle’s architecture are presented through unique installations and visually engaging reconstruction images. In the Bencés Tower, visitors can view noble family coats of arms and coats of mail projected onto illuminated tables, and with the help of an interactive model, they can also observe how the mass and structure of the building changed over time. One of the most important periods in the history of Szigliget Castle followed the division of the country into three parts, when a chain of border fortresses was established along the northern shoreline of Lake Balaton. This defensive line is illustrated through a floor map, along with a detailed model depicting the naval forces of Lake Balaton. Visitors can also gain insight into how battles once took place on the lake. Interactive installations present the structure of a border fortress garrison, the military strategies of the period—such as siege tactics—and even allow visitors to try out replicas of contemporary weapons. Dioramas depicting scenes from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period help bring historical moments to life. Szigliget Castle offers a rich and engaging experience for visitors, providing meaningful and memorable ways to spend their time.
